Ghadar

Ghadar history is largely out of scope for this website.

We recommend looking at Maia Ramnath's Haj to Utopia and Seema Sohi's Echoes of Mutiny as starting points to this dense and complicated history, and SAADA Ghadar materials for a look at original sources.

Some links to materials of our own interest:

  • [1914] British documents related to banning Ghadar materials in India, and all general Ghadar publications (includes translation from issues 1-2)
  • [1914] British documents related to banning banning Ghadr di Gunj (Echoes of Mutiny), published by Yugantar Ashram, San Francisco
  • [1914] British documents related to banning Ghadar Urdu publication "Shabhash", San Francisco. It includes a long translation.
  • [1914] British documents related to banning "Zulm Zulm Gore Shahi Zulm" pamphlet issued by Har Dayal's Revolutionary Center, Yugantar Ashram, San Francisco (includes translation)
  • [1914] British documents barring Ghadar materials from Fiji
  • [1940] The British report that copies of Indian Punjabi Communist paper Kirti was being sent to the Ghadar party at 5 Wood Street in San Francisco. The document describes the Ghadar Party in general.
The Berkeley South Asian History Archive is a companion website for the Berkeley South Asian Radical History Walking Tour, and contains research notes by Anirvan Chatterjee and Barnali Ghosh. This is very much a work in progress. Questions? Contact us.
